Hikers on the trail along Schelder Forest

May hike 2024 of TV Herbornseelbach

Beautiful tour on May 1st in beautiful nature.

The gymnastics club had invited people to the traditional May hike. In bright sunshine and temperatures of around 25°, numerous members and friends of the club hiked a distance of around 6km. E. Görzel, M. Henß and F. Claas had planned the tour in a northerly direction through the Herbornseelbach and Niederscheld districts. Halfway there was a break at the Niederscheld water wheel, where cool refreshments were available for the hikers. The destination was the Herbornseelbach shooting range, and when they arrived they were able to round off the wonderful day with coffee and cake, freshly baked by the women on the board.

Annual General Meeting on 08.03.2024

Looking back on a successful year for TV Herbornseelbach

The annual general meeting of TV 1897 Herbornseelbach eV took place on March 8, 2024 in the multi-purpose room of the gym in Herbornseelbach. In her report, chairwoman Cornelia Göwel found many words of praise for the achievements of the athletes.

The handball, athletics and swimming departments were particularly mentioned here. Maurice Schonert was honored as German champion in the swimming all-around competition for the fourth time.

The swimmers and track and field athletes took part in numerous competitions last year and achieved many podium places. Both departments were very successful at both the district and Hesse level.

During the meeting, numerous athletes were also awarded sports badges. In the youth and adult categories, 27 gold, 12 silver and 2 bronze medals were achieved.

In the new elections, chairwoman Cornelia Göwel and membership officer Friedhelm Claas were re-elected for another three years. Department heads Madeleine Henss (gymnastics) and Helga Schonert (swimming) were confirmed in their positions. Youth officer Andrea Prosch will also continue in her position for another three years. Nadine Quirin was re-elected as the third assessor. The assembly elected Heiko Wagner as the second auditor.

Cornelia Göwel repeatedly emphasized how important voluntary work is for the clubs and our society. She called on young people in particular to get involved in the club in order to keep the sporting diversity alive.

Advanced training in first aid

The TV board had organized a first aid course for September 30, 2023.

17 instructors and assistants took advantage of this opportunity to attend such a course for the first time or to refresh their existing knowledge.

Under the leadership of Arnd Sawitzki, the emergency seminars were held to refresh theoretical knowledge before moving on to practical exercises. Various bandages were practiced, which could be used in the training sessions. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was also performed on the Karl-Friedrich dummy, so that the correct action could be taken in an emergency.

To give everyone strength, there was a snack during the lunch break, which was of course very well received.

It was unanimously agreed that such courses should be held at regular intervals in order to always be up to date with the latest knowledge and also to combat fear of emergency situations.

The TV is committed to continuing to offer such opportunities for trainers and helpers in the future to ensure that everyone is able to act correctly in an emergency situation.

Many thanks to Arnd Sawitzki for this informative day and to all those involved who took part with great fun and interest.

Women's gymnastics groups in Darmstadt

Day trip for senior citizens

The women's groups led by Heide Kühlbon particularly appreciate the annual full-day excursion.

This time Darmstadt was chosen for this purpose, especially since there are many sights here that are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Since these all have a historical background, the tour was of course led and guided by an expert.

Particularly worth mentioning are the wedding tower and the studio house with exhibition buildings. People were equally enthusiastic about the park on the Rosenhöhe, where landscape gardens were laid out at the beginning of the 19th century and where the Rosarium with the Rose Dome is located.

Half marathon in the Swiss mountains

Timo Görzel from TV Herbornseelbach ran to a respectable 15th place in the M40 class at the half marathon in Zermatt (Switzerland).

On July 1st, the strong field started the 21st Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon (approx. 2000 participants, of which approx. 900 were in the half marathon). The half marathon went from Zermatt to the Riffelberg (3,092 m). A total of 1,300 meters of altitude had to be overcome. Görzel completed the difficult course in a time of 2h:37m:34s and took 15th place in the rankings.

Congratulations for the great performance!

TV-DAMEN: Day trip to Frankfurt on 27.05.2023

Finally doing something together again after a long time.

On the Saturday before Pentecost we started our trip to Frankfurt.

Meeting point at a quarter to eight at the old swimming pool, where everyone received their travel provisions. A dozen gymnasts boarded the train in Herborn in good spirits. When someone goes on a trip... - after a short time there was something to talk about. Shortly before Gießen the train stopped on the open track. Technical defect.

So our care packages came into play. After more than an hour we finally continued on to Gießen. There we had to change to another train, which was already quite full. Shortly after 11 we finally reached our destination and were already expected.

Dominik Göwel (son of our first chairwoman C. Göwel) had agreed to accompany us as a personal guide on this Saturday. As we know him, he had naturally thought of something special for us and welcomed us with a scratching brush to which he had attached a TV bag (125th anniversary gym bag). Great idea!

We quickly went to the Kleinmarkthalle, where we were immediately drawn into the lively hustle and bustle. A little refreshment with a meat sausage or bratwurst and of course a drink or two.

Well prepared, we started our cultural program: a stroll through the new old town (really worth seeing, unfortunately we didn't have enough time) and a visit to the Kaisersaal in the Römer. (The balcony was closed, they certainly didn't know we were coming). During our tour, we received a lot of information in an entertaining way from our tour guide.

Then it was time for the next highlight: a cruise on the Main. In brilliant sunshine (when angels travel...) we took a one-hour boat ride and admired the Frankfurt skyline from the water.

With our feet back on solid ground, we crossed the Eiserner Steg to Sachsenhausen. There we stopped at "Appelwoi Unser" and enjoyed Frankfurt specialties to end the day accompanied by a musical interlude from the waitresses. The icing on the cake of the day.

When it's at its best... - then it's time to go home. So back to the main station. Dominik made sure that everyone was back on the train and then it was goodbye Frankfurt. The journey home went without incident and we arrived safely back in Herborn. All passengers agreed: it was a successful trip that is worth repeating soon.

A big THANK YOU to Dominik, who mastered his role as tour guide professionally and with flying colors and organized our day in Frankfurt so well.

Hikers on the trail along Hohe Straße

May hike 2023 of TV Herbornseelbach

This year, the traditional May hike of the gymnastics club led through the northern district of Herbornseelbach. Numerous hikers gathered at the starting point at the old iron wagon by the cemetery. Friedhelm Claas had chosen the 5km hike so that the participants could leisurely manage the climb to the highest point of the tour. The first stop along the Hohe Straße was above the Aartal barracks. Here Claas gave the first information about the barracks, where construction had already started in 1962 and which was occupied in 1966. Christian Görzel (local mayor and former hiking warden of the TV) explained the route of the Hohe Straße and the former condition of the paths (sunken paths). Via the Feisel Cross, the hike continued to the tree nursery (now a shelter) and to the coach park. Görzel was also able to pass on some information to the hikers about these places. Claas added the annual nominations for the bird and tree of the year 2023. (Whinchat and downy birch) The last stage then led downhill from the coach house to the sports center of SK 1920 Herbornseelbach. Here there was delicious cake that some of the ladies from the board had baked, as well as hot coffee and cold drinks. The hikers thanked everyone for a successful hike.

Annual General Meeting on 17.03.2023

Looking back on an eventful and successful year for TV Herbornseelbach

At the annual general meeting of TV Herbornseelbach, chairwoman Cornelia Göwel was able to look back on an eventful year 2022 with the club's 125th anniversary and sporting successes.

Particularly noteworthy here are the swimming and athletics departments, which took part in numerous competitions and brought many titles and medals back to the Aartal. Maurice Schonert once again won the title of German champion in the swimming all-around competition. In addition, numerous Hesse championship titles were won in the swimming all-around competition. In athletics, there were four Hesse championship titles and numerous successes at the Lahn-Dill championships, the district cup round and the district championships.

In addition to the sporting achievements, Cornelia Göwel looked back on an eventful anniversary year. This was duly celebrated in July with an academic celebration, a hands-on day for young and old, live music and a church service followed by a morning pint. She also looked back on the turbulent years of the past with swimming pool and hall closures and was pleased that after these restrictions, normality has now returned to everyday life and training sessions have been able to resume in all departments. She hopes that TV Herbornseelbach will be able to offer an extensive sporting program in the future with great confidence. She also appealed to everyone present that fellow campaigners, whether as trainers or in the board work, are always very welcome to get actively involved in the club and support the club's work.

In addition to the sporting awards, the chairwoman congratulated another thirteen members on their 25th anniversary, seven on their 40th anniversary, nine on their 50th anniversary and one member on their 70th anniversary. She also appointed four members as honorary members. The sports badge was awarded 15 times in gold, 7 times in silver and 1 time in bronze and was presented by Cornelia Göwel.

In the subsequent elections, the 35 eligible voters elected Christiane Läufer as the new 2nd chairwoman, as Heiko Wagner had taken over this position on an interim basis last year. Treasurer Thorsten Große and secretary Doreen Sommer were re-elected to their positions. The head of the music department, Florian Claas, had already been elected at the department meeting and confirmed by the meeting. As Christiane Läufer took over the position of 2nd chairwoman, she is no longer available as equipment manager. Timo Birkenstock was elected to this position. Cornelia Werner-Große remains 2nd assessor. Jennifer Lenz takes over from Maja Gräf as 2nd auditor.

Following the awards and elections, the amendment to the statutes and membership fee regulations was discussed with those present and passed unanimously.

Carnival breakfast for senior citizens

On Shrove Tuesday, the senior citizens met for breakfast at the Hotel Garni in Burg. A tradition that could not take place for a few years due to Corona. The walk to Burg was rewarded with a rich breakfast.

Annual kick-off of the Leisure, Gymnastics and Health Working Group

The instructors from the leisure, gymnastics and health department of the Lahn-Dill gymnastics association celebrated the start of their year in Herborn-Seelbach.

Due to water damage in the multi-purpose hall, the hosts from TV Herborn-Seelbach and their 24 guests from 16 clubs had to move to the village's "old school" in the center of town at short notice, but this did not spoil the good mood. Only the sporting part of the meeting had to be adapted to the much more cramped conditions. But group leader Birgit Bauer (TSV Ballersbach) delighted those present with a successful mixture of circulation-stimulating gymnastics while sitting and relaxation with scented Qi Gong.

The gymnasts then began the second half of their meeting with coffee and cake. Here the working group presented its offers for this year and also gave the opportunity to put forward wishes and suggestions for courses next year.

This year, the next event is the spring hike to the Bienenstichwiese in Haiger on May 6th.

Autumn hike 2022 of TV Herbornseelbach

As part of its 125th anniversary, TV Herbornseelbach, together with the local local history association (HGV), organized a local history hike through the Montzenbach valley.

It started in the old village with historical facts about the “Backes” and the former Seelbach brewery right next to it. The rest of the route, accompanied by expert Christian Görzel from the HGV, led the group towards the castle in the lower Montzenbach valley. Here the hikers learned interesting facts about old routes and field names in this part of the district. For example, the family name “Kochhen” in Seelbach was found to be part of the field name “Kochendellchen” around 1600. The 60 or so history hikers were also interested to hear that “Montzenbach” can still be found in old church accounts in 1549. The sunny autumn weather continued up the valley along the “Herrschaftlichen Wiesen” to Volpertsberg. At the end of the route the group made a short stop at the “Alte Wilhelmshoffnung” copper mine on Bornberg. Members of the historical society used a short anecdote to report how the people of Seelbach earned a little extra money from mining. The beautiful autumn hike was not only very well received, but also ended with a pleasant coffee and cake at the Schützenhaus. A photo gallery can be found here!

Senior citizens in Limburg

Gymnasts experience city tour with humor and song

At TV Herbornseelbach, women are given a very high priority with a large number of women in various groups with age-appropriate offers.

The associated "Monday morning group" for seniors focuses on back exercises. However, socializing is also very important, which includes an annual day trip. This time the gymnasts in Limburg experienced a city tour with funny anecdotes as well as music and singing.

Saturday gymnasts on the Bienenstichwiese

Saturday gymnastics on the “Bienenstichwiese” Manderbach

The Saturday gymnasts' gymnastics activities take place outdoors during the summer break. It is important to find places where you are not exposed to heat and sunlight. Instructor Alfred Benner was in contact with Herbert Schulz, who created a nature reserve in the Hengstbachtal in Manderbach and offered his "Bienenstichwiese" for our exercises. We were able to exercise on a green meadow and in the healthy forest air before Herbert Schulz showed us around his facility.

In more than 20 years of work, he has created a natural paradise from overgrown land that can be a teaching facility for young and old. It is admirable how much knowledge about the most diverse areas of nature is documented in countless exhibits, pictures, trees, bushes, medicinal herbs, beekeeping, etc. With every step you feel the message: "How beautiful our nature is, protect it!"

Annual General Meeting of TV 1897 eV Herbornseelbach on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Seelbacher Hof

The 125th anniversary will be celebrated in style

The annual general meeting of the largest Herbornseelbach local club was all about preparations for the gymnastics club's 125th birthday.

For the weekend of July 15-17, 2022, the gymnasts invite all members and friends to the big anniversary celebration. In addition to the ceremony on Friday, a family day with a musical finale is planned on Saturday. On Sunday, the gymnastics club, together with the Protestant church congregation, invites everyone to an open-air service before the celebrations end with a morning pint.

In her annual report, the first chairwoman of the gymnastics club, Cornelia Göwel, already referred to the difficulties in planning the celebrations: due to the corona pandemic and the uncertainty about what the regulations would be at the time of the anniversary, they had already planned "everything a little smaller," she said. The war in Ukraine then presented the club with new difficulties. Since the city of Herborn had earmarked the Seelbach gymnasium for the accommodation of refugees, a new location had to be found for the celebrations. This has now happened with the courtyard of the Dernbach school, reported the first chairwoman.

However, she also appealed to the city of Herborn to look for other accommodation options for refugees in the future, as the Seelbach gymnasium is at full capacity and one of the largest clubs in the Herborn area as well as the Dernbach school and the kindergarten would otherwise have no opportunity to do sports. However, Cornelia Göwel said she hoped that this discussion would be over by autumn and that peace would be restored by then.

Group photo in front of the Doll and Toy Museum in Hanau

Senior gymnastics group in Seligenstadt and Hanau

The 25 women from the senior gymnastics group are happy that after the long Corona breaks they can finally hold their sporting activities regularly again under the direction of Heide Kühlborn in the Seelbach gymnasium.

This was also taken as an opportunity to add the day trip that was cancelled last year to the agenda. It is no wonder that the great interest in this made it possible to charter a coach exclusively for the group - all of whom had already had both corona vaccinations.

The tour of the baroque monastery in Seligenstadt with its beautiful gardens was a feast for the eyes for the women. It was equally interesting to learn details about the Benedictine monks' rules 1,000 years ago.

In stark contrast to this experience, the visit to the doll and toy museum in Hanau was a great contrast. This brought back memories of childhood, especially as the number one doll in the modest range of toys for all the gymnasts was a doll with a name. The fact that the tour also included a coffee and homemade cake made the surprise perfect. What the women cannot do is go without exercise, otherwise they would not have concluded the tour with a tour of the "Wilhelmsbad State Park".

Group photo of the Saturday gymnasts in front of the Old Town Hall in Hattingen

Saturday gymnasts on the move

The Saturday gymnasts took the great atmosphere in Hattingen on the Ruhr, which is unique for a Christmas market, as an opportunity to visit this market during Advent. It took place in the middle of the old town and in the small alleys with its great half-timbered houses. This Christmas market was combined with a large selection of "French handicrafts" and culinary highlights. It was a unique experience for the gymnastics group, especially as the event was combined with Christmas and musical performances. The Saturday gymnasts posed for a group photo in front of the Old Town Hall, where a nostalgically colorful Advent calendar amazed all visitors. Gerd Gattermann, a "real" Hattinger who started a family in Seelbach after his time in the army, was the ideal tour guide. He accompanied the Saturday gymnasts in every nook and cranny. Alfred Benner

The TV gymnastics group in front of the Ivory Museum

Gymnasts visit Ivory Museum in Erbach

The varied offerings of the Herbornseelbach gymnastics club 1897 eV have aroused a strikingly large interest among senior citizens in recent years. Every Monday morning at 10 a.m. a women's gymnastics group of 30 people aged between 57 and 87 starts the week. The instructor is Heide Kühlborn. Under the motto "Exercise is quality of life", not only the range of full-body gymnastics, hikes and Kneipp treatments is valued, but also the cultivation of sociability. The club's founders knew this and first wrote it down in the club's statutes in 1897. Social interaction also includes an annual city adventure trip. The ideal group size makes it possible to charter a smaller bus for 25 people and to design the destination and the itinerary according to your own wishes. This time it was the German Ivory Museum in Erbach. An expert guide explained the concept of a breathtaking museum with its unique objects to the gymnasts. They also gazed in amazement at the countless exhibits in the treasury. A visit to the museum workshop also aroused interest. Here, information was provided about the modern processing of mammoth ivory and other alternative materials in the interests of species protection. The crowning conclusion of the day trip was a visit to the Schöllenbach Altar. A magnificent sacred art in honor of the Mother of God. Historical events changed the placement of the Marian altar, which was completed in 1515 in the former pilgrimage church in Schöllenbach, over the centuries. Today, the restored altar has found a home in the Hubertus Chapel in Erbach Castle. Alfred Benner

Walking group takes a trip to Oppenheim

The walking group from TV Herborn-Seelbach had chartered a bus for themselves and made a day trip to the historic wine and festival town of Oppenheim. They wanted to get some exercise here too. So, in addition to a covered wagon ride with wine tasting through the vineyards, they also booked a tour of a section of the many kilometers long cellar system. As early as the 14th century, the people of Oppenheim used the loess subsoil and built deep cellars under the residential buildings to store goods. Today, around 600 m of the historic old town around the town hall are open to tourist tours. It was a completely different feeling for the walking group to be underground. Walking sticks were not recommended, but for safety reasons, wearing a protective helmet was compulsory in the sometimes narrow and low vaults. During the subsequent two-hour tour through the vineyards, the walkers received interesting and up-to-date information about work in the vineyards and the Oppenheim wines. Once they arrived home, the summer tour, which took place in beautiful weather, ended at the Seelbach Hof. Alfred Benner
